ABSTRACT
This work studies compounding as a morphological process in Igbo. Compounding as a process in Igbo has been studied by many linguists scholars, such as Oha (2011), Abubakre (2009), among others but these previous studies have always been centered on what compounding is, verbal compounds and the classification of compounds into types. The approach of this study on compounding in Igbo is different from other studies based on the fact that it includes the classification of Igbo compounds into structure.
These the researcher intends to achieve through the collection of primary and secondary data from competent native speakers of the language. The work is divided into (5) five chapters: Chapter one is all about the introduction of what the work entails; chapter two deals with a review of related literature on the concept of compounding propounded by various linguists; chapter three is the theoretical framework; chapter four reveals a detailed analysis of the data and also emphasizes the structural and typological classification of compounds in Igbo language while chapter five tells the summary, findings and conclusion of the work.
