ABSTRACTWe can be bold to state here, prior to our research on the existing literature that Igbo pronouns has been treated as an aside, so that, no detailed or substantial work has been done in the language exclusively on the subject of pronoun haven discovered lapses in comparison with research conducted on the subject in various literature of other languages. This study is set to introduced in to the Igbo literature a new idea as it bring to light the postulation and findings of Bhat (2007) in his work on “Pronoun” after he examined, analyzed and described intensively the pronoun of most Indo-European languages and a few of African languages. This present study is detailed to the examination of the need to make a distinction between personal pronoun and proforms, with the former term including first and second person pronoun and the latter other types of pronouns. The position of third person pronoun in this regard however need to be examined separately as they appear to belong to the system of personal pronoun in some languages and to that of demonstratives in others, we shall achieve these objectives using a methodology similar to Bhats, Basic linguistic theory of Dixon (1997) we obtained our data primarily and secondary to equip our effort for accurate observation and descriptive adequacy. Our findings as a result of our data proved positive to Bhat postulation, (so that his findings is language universals rather than language specific) Igbo is obviously a Three Person language with a person oriented two way deictic function.
