ABSTRACT

This research work provides an in-depth identification, classification, analysis and discussion of the comparative analysis of relative clause markers in Yoruba and English language. The purpose of this research work is to analysis to examine the functionality of relative clause markers using Yorùbá and English languages. It focuses on the comparison of relative clause markers between the two languages. To achieve the aims of this study, the researcher used the tenet of comparative linguistics to analyze the lists of the clauses and sentences gotten in English and Yoruba language. The study revealed that  there are various types of relative clause marker that shows animate and inanimate subject and object in the English language which is not the case in Yoruba. In Yoruba, there is just one relative clause marker "tí" that is used for both animate and inanimate subject and object.  The Researcher recommends a morphological analysis of sequential derivations of Yoruba clauses and English clauses.
