ABSTRACT

This study examined the Attitude of Biology Teachers Towards Field Trip in Egor LGA of Edo State. The survey research design was adopted for this study because data was collected from a sample population with specific characteristics. The research questions were asked and answered during the study using simple percentage counting. The population of the study covered the entire senior secondary school biology teachers in the area of study. Out of this population, twenty-three (23) biology teachers were selected as the sample for the study using a random sampling technique. The instrument used to collect data for the study was a twenty-item selfstructured questionnaire. On the basis of the findings made in the study, we conclude that biology teachers’ attitudes significantly influence their willingness to organize and participate in field trips. The results indicated that teachers who perceive field trips as beneficial for student learning are more likely to integrate them into their teaching, while those with negative attitudes often avoid them due to logistical challenges and perceived difficulties. The implication of this study to practice highlights the need for increased support and awareness programs to encourage the effective use of field trips in biology instruction. Conclusively, the results emphasized that limited funding, lack of administrative support, and concerns about student safety contribute to teachers’ reluctance to conduct field trips. The researcher recommends that schools and education stakeholders provide adequate funding, policy support, and training programs to enhance teachers’ confidence and ability to implement field trips effectively.
