ABSTRACT

The primary objective of reservoir material balance analysis is to determine hydrocarbon in place and aquifer properties which ensure that the aquifer influx into the reservoir offsets reservoir production.

This research work document the study on the reservoir performance of the ABC reservoir located onshore Niger Delta. The study involved material balance analysis of the reservoir ABC. The main objectives of the study are to estimate the in-place volume, determine the drive mechanism, compare the effect of two different aquifer models (Fetkovich and Hurst-van Everdingen modified), estimate the aquifer parameters and predict the reservoir pressure.

The Petroleum Expert MBAL tool was used in predicting the performance of the ABC reservoir.

The estimated STOIIP for the ABC reservoir was 82MMSTB as against the volumetric estimate of 81.9MMSTB. The pressure match obtained from the analysis was satisfactory thereby validating the estimated volume and drive mechanism from the MBAL analysis.

A pressure decline of about 8.1% was observed over a period of about 45 years indicative of a strong aquifer drive.

However, the aquifer models used for this study do not have any effect on the in-place volume.
