ABSTRACT

Youth crime, drug use, and other social problems in Nigeria are at an all-time high. The breakdown of national leadership has aided the spread of many different types of teenage crime. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the Behavior of youth in Nigeria, specifically the Ekosodin Community in Benin City, Edo State, and its relationship with the leadership question in the country. A descriptive survey method was used for this investigation. Participants in the study are people living in the Ekosodin Community in Benin City. One hundred participants were selected for the study using a random selection procedure. The information for the study was gathered by means of a standardized questionnaire as well. In addition, the acquired data were evaluated by means of the mean, standard deviation, and Chi-square test. According to the study's findings, the high rates of teenage unemployment, drug abuse/trafficking, and unrest may be traced back to a lack of effective leadership in the country over the years. Young people's participation in cybercrime was found to be unaffected by the leadership challenge. The study's findings suggest that the leadership crisis in Nigeria has altered the habits of the country's young people. According to the findings, the government should implement policies that boost the economy and create jobs, improve the quality of life in all communities across the country, and build modern infrastructure, as well as pass strict laws against online fraud. Last but not least, an antinarcotic agency like the NDLEA that is tasked with keeping tabs on the illegal drug trade should have adequate resources and incentives to carry out its mission.
