The study was conducted to determine workload and teachers' effectiveness in teaching mathematics to senior secondary schools students in Oredo local government area. Five research questions were raised and five corresponding null hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study was 3641 students and 28 teachers while the sample size was 5 mathematics teachers and 182 students randomly selected from SS2 in Oredo local government area of Edo State. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.71. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation, percentage count and linear regression. The major findings of the study showed that workload is a significant predictor of teachers’ effectiveness. Workload is a significant predictor of teachers’ effectiveness based on age. Workload is a significant predictor of teachers’ effectiveness based on gender. Workload is not a significant predictor of teachers’ effectiveness based on marital status and workload is not a significant predictor of teachers’ effectiveness based on qualification. Based on these findings it was therefore recommended that the government should make policies to address teacher workload challenges, more teachers should be employed to ease workload and educators, administrators and policymakers should implement certain steps based on the research findings to reduce teacher workload.
