ABSTRACT

This study investigated work-related stress factors as correlates of job satisfaction of lecturers in Edo State polytechnic Usen. Nine research questions were raised and seven corresponding hypotheses were formulated. These hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Relevant literatures were reviewed based on the theoretical framework and on major concepts of the study; concept of work-related stress factors and job satisfaction. Empirical review was also carried out on work-related stress factors such as work demand, work overload, interpersonal relationship, leadership style. The correlational survey design was adopted for this study and a sample size of ninety-six (96) lecturers in Edo State Polytechnic Usen were used. The instrument used for the study is a questionnaire titled "Work-Related Stress and Job Satisfaction Scale" (WRSJS). The questionnaire is segmented into two parts - Section A and B. Section A contains demographic data about the respondents such as name of department, sex, age and years of work experience. Section B consist of 42 items which were presented in different sub sections with a four points rating scale ranging from Strongly Agree (4), Agree (3), Disagree (2) and Strongly Disagree (1). The data collected was analysed using descriptive, Pearson Product Moment and Fishers Z-Test Statistics. The findings of this study revealed that work demand, work overload and interpersonal relationship were strong work-related stress factors affecting the job satisfaction of lecturers in Edo State Polytechnic Usen, compared to leadership style. The findings also revealed that the level of job satisfaction among lecturers in Edo State Polytechnic Usen is high. From the findings of this study, It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between work demand and interpersonal relationship on job 14 satisfaction of lecturers. However, there is no significant relationship between work overload and leadership style on job satisfaction of lecturers. The results also revealed that there is no significant relationship between work-related stress and job satisfaction based on factor such as sex, age and number of years of work experience of lecturera in Edo State Polytechnic Usen.
