Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between work-life balance practices and employee commitment in Universities in Edo state. In doing so, the study focused on three Universities in Edo state namely: University of Benin, Benson Idahosa University and Ambrose Ali University. By using a stratified sampling method, a sample was chosen amongst participants who were 200 members of staff of the universities (80 academic and 120 non-academic) respectively. The quantitative study used regression analysis to test the hypothesis. The result of the analysis revealed that the use of career leave in enhancing employee commitment to the organization was a relatively unimportant factor compared to the use of child care and flexible working. Thus child care and flexible working were the most efficient forms of support for employee. It is therefore recommended that the management of the universities make provision for childcare facilities and offer more flexible working options for their employees.
