ABSTRACT

The study examines work-life balance among married women employees, academic and non-academic staff in the university of Benin, Benin City, Edo State., working women are facing conflicting demands from both work and life domains. They find it difficult to manage and balance between the pressures of work place and duties belonging to home and family. Achieving a balance between work and life is a critical issue especially for married women employees these days. A sample of sixty (60) questionnaires was drawn randomly from the population. based on the findings, the study therefore made the following conclusion that married working women face different kinds of challenges when trying to balance between work and family life. However, these challenges can be overcome or reduced through family support and organizational support. Finally, the use of labour saving devices can also help in reducing the stress of married working women in University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. From the findings above, the study therefore made the following recommendations that there should be organizational intervention through human resource management policies to support married working women for satisfactory work life balance and the need for organizations to develop a supportive culture which recognizes the contributions of married working women. Married working women should also seek family support especially from their spouses and grown up children or family relatives, married working women can also embrace the use of modern labour saving devices, married working women should be given breaks and leave at work as often as possible, married working women should endeavour to have a car to ease their movement from home to office and also for running errands.
