ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine women's perception of baby friendly and conventional baby feeding practices in Ovia North East Local Government Area. There were five research questions that were raised and analyzed for the purpose of the study and the five research questions were also hypothesized. The sample population of the study comprises of one hundred women. The sample size was achieved using stratified random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection and analyzed using frequency count, mean calculations, simple percentage. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts from the department of health safety and environmental education. The findings revealed that factors such as maternal education, socioeconomic conditions, paternal support and sociocultural norms influence women's choices in infant feeding. It was therefore recommended that a holistic intervention be adopted i.e combining education, socioeconomic support and cultural awareness to promote baby friendly feeding practices among women in Ovia North East Local Government Area.
