ABSTRACT
This study examines women empowerment programme and the role of literacy education programme in Egor local government area of Edo state, to make this possible four research purposes were raised to guide the study
The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A total of 105 respondents were used for this study. set of questionnaires were utilized in this study, the first set of questionnaires dealt with the personal data of the respondents and the other set of questionnaires dealt with issues raised in the research question. The validity of the study was determined by the researcher’s supervisor and the reliability of instrument was 0.64 obtained using Pearson product moment correlation co-efficient formulas, indicating that the instrument was reliable
The study concludes that they are available literacy programme is important in empowering women in Egor Local Government and thatliteracy educational programmes have empowered the women in Egor local government area. The study therefore recommends that Efforts should be made by all and sundry to ensure that women are not neglected in the provision of literacy education, in order for them to contribute their own quota to the process of development. Governments at all level should ensure that machineries are put in place to monitor and coordinate the available literacy programmes designed for the populace as this would ensure efficiency and effectiveness of such programmes.
