ABSTRACT

Mobile communication of recent has taken the world by storm and is getting bigger and better. Due to the numerous advantages they offer, a number of government and private business processes are being carried out under this platform which also include elections. Electronic Voting (E-Voting) is a method used to describe the act of voting using electronic systems to cast, count and display votes as scored by each candidate. This study designed a mobile voting system for Nigeria election to help eliminate social problems associated with election processes during and after elections. The system was designed using Java script and PHP for web services as front end and MYSQL as database for the backend were records of voters and political parties are stored. With this study voter can conveniently cast vote, view voting progresses, voting summary as scored by individual parties. This system also provides a token to the users phone before the candidate can access the voting platform. This thesis also shows that over 95% of phone users in the sample population uses Android phones which motivated the researcher to develop this application. We therefore among our recommendation that the federal government should put in place the necessary laws that will allow the use of mobile voting system in Nigeria election processes.
