ABSTRACT
The need for a technology driven record system in our law enforcement system cannot be over-emphasized as Nigerians are rapidly embracing modern technology. The purpose of a web based record system is to automate the existing manual system with the help of full-fledged software that assists police personnel to carry out their basic duty. A preliminary but detailed investigation and analysis of the currently existing system at the Zone 5 Police Station was carried out. This is with a view to discovering its strong point and inherent weakness. This project work identifies the challenges facing the Police Department that seek to implement computerized tracking information systems. This project also highlights the importance of Police Departments identifying crime records and then designing systems that accomplish the tasks specific to the needs of their end-users. Data transfer, data integration, system customization and confidentiality issues are discussed. One of the most significant short-comings in the delivery of justice is the delay that is encountered by court users which increases the cost of litigation in both time and money and results in pro-longed criminal trials and over-crowded prisons. Hence the new system designed will aid Police in tracking crime records and also facilitate timely delivery of judgment by the court. This program will be used legally to preserve and search records by law enforcement officers. This software will also aid faster and easier generation of data for individuals and organization for the purpose of research, economics and budget planning. In this research, we have used HTML, Php and MySQL to develop the software. The software is an online web application with database system which is needed in the Police Department to keep the record of suspects. The aim behind the design of this software is to model a computerized crime record system to enable professional and non-professional to handle criminal related matters with ease.
