ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship that exists between the school system, the job market, and vocational and technical education. Examining the reasons behind the lack of employment and self-employment among graduates of vocational and technical education was the goal of this study. It is vital to possess communication, teamwork, leadership, and technological abilities. The study used a descriptive survey approach, and the sample size was fifty (50), which served as a representative sample of all respondents in the vocational and technical education field. A well-crafted questionnaire that addressed at least one of the study topics was employed as the instrument for gathering data. On a scale from Very High Extent to Very Low Extent, it was rated. Prior to administration, the research instrument was evaluated by two experts in vocational and technical education (VTE), and the final instrument was developed based on their comments, ideas, and recommendations. The research questions were addressed using a mean and a simple percentage. A range scale was employed to interpret the research's findings; for instance, any item with a mean more than three and less than or equal to four was regarded as Very High Extent (VHE) in terms of dependability confirmation. Reliability coefficient obtained with Pearson's product technique was 0.81. The study's analysis leads to the conclusion that, in order for graduates of vocational and technical education to function effectively and productively in the labour market, they must possess certain skills. Additionally, the absence of certain technological requirements, such as a well 7 equipped work shop, a good computer lab, and regular practical experience, is crucial for improving learning for vocational and technical students. The Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administration (ICSA), the Institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) are among the recognised and registered professional bodies that graduates and students should seek out relevant professional guidance from, both inside and outside the nation. More practical experiences should be provided to vocational and technical education students throughout their courses in order to assess their entrepreneurial abilities once they graduate. The application of vocational and technical abilities by graduates in such fields would greatly improve with the usage of contemporary technology by both lecturers and students.
