ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to visually represent the beauty and the cultural heritage that lies in Africa using Ethiopia as a case study and also her enormous contribution to other parts of the world. This painting project is to produce a painting expanding the knowledge of it viewers on the beauty that lies in Africa. For decades, a lot of artists have been able to represent this topic in various forms, ranging from realism, impressionism, expressionism, abstract etc. However, these artists have not been able to properly depict Africa aesthetics properly not necessary showing what African art should be observed as “rich, meaningful and symbolic”.
Using art as a medium in bringing about social change in the society, these works have not been able to meet their goals because some non-Africans have not been convinced by these paintings of these artists, which are why some still refuse to be enlightened.
The researcher was able to establish the composition with the use of oil colours on canvas. This painting project was executed through; construction of stretcher, stretching the canvas and priming. It would also capture making of miniature sketch and transfer of the sketch to the main canvas. The painting exercise would include various stages and steps and finally detailing of figures. With the adherent to the element and principles of design, under the supervision of Prof. Imonikebe, the painting project would be a success.
