Abstract

 The major purpose of this study was to investigate the Utilization of Nigerian fabrics for garment making among Academic and Non Academic female staff in the University of Benin.The study adopted descriptive survey research design.

The study was carried out using Academic and Non-Academic female Staff in government tertiary Institution. Six research questions were developed and answered by the study. The population of the study was One thousand eight hundred and thirty-five (1,835) female academic and non-academic staff in the institution A sample of 56 respondents was drawn from the population using proportionate sampling of 3%. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire divided into two sections (A and B). Section A contained demographic data of respondents B was developed based on the six research questions and item statement elicited from the research question with a four-point renting scale. Strongly agree, Agree, Disagree and Strongly Disagree. The instrument was Validated by 3 experts in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Benin. To establish the reliability of the instrument, thirty (30) copies of questionnaire were trial tested on thirty (30) female workers in Benin.  Cronbach Alpha reliability method was used to establish the internal consistency of the instrument which yielded reliability index of 0.82.

The researcher personally administered the questionnaire to the selected staff. The researcher explained to the respondents the our of the study and how to respond to the items on the questionnaire. The questionnaire were administered and collected on a spot by the researcher. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions that guided the study. The findings of the study showed six factors affecting utilization of garment made with Nigerian fabrics. It was recommended among others that Efforts should be made to improve the quality of Nigerian fabrics through the use of high-quality fibers, skilled weaving methods, and attention to fabric weight and density.
