Summary
In this investigation, indigenous bacteria capable of metabolizing or using hydrocarbons were discovered. However, biodegradation of petroleum and other hydrocarbons in the environment is a complex process who’s qualitative and quantitative characteristics are influenced by the nature and amount of oil pollutant, nutrients, ambient environmental conditions, and microbial community composition. As a result, more research should be conducted to better understand how specific bacteria interact with the soil microbial community to influence the efficacy of microbial associations in hydrocarbon utilization.
