UTILIZATION OF E-LEARNING PLATFORMS AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

 

This research investigated the utilization of e-learning platforms among business education students in tertiary institution in Edo State using University of Benin as a case study. Six research questions were raised to guide the study. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The target population was 257 students of business education which comprises of 3 levels 200, 300 and 400 level students. The random sample technique was used to arrive at the sample size of 50 which is 10 from 200 level, 20 from 300 level and 20 from 400 level. The question was the instrument used for data collection. The data collected from the respondent was analyzed using mean and standard deviation.

The findings indicate that Business Education students actively use various e-learning platforms. Google Classroom is frequently used for collaborative learning and attending classes, while Coursera is utilized for skill application and access to expert knowledge. Edx supports research, group study, and self-paced learning. MOOC provides free course materials and performance tracking, and Duolingo enhances writing, communication skills, and language learning. Despite facing challenges, Business Education students exhibit a high rate of e-learning platform utilization. The study concludes that these platforms significantly benefit students in their academic and skill development.

Based on the findings of the study, the researcher recommended among others that: educational institutions should provide support for students to effectively utilized e-learning platform. This can include well equipped computer classrooms to ensure all users are comfortable utilizing the platforms.
