USEFULNESS OF MAGNESIUM OXIDE NANOPARTICLE IN REMEDIATING CADMIUM AND NICKEL CONTAMINANT IN WATER

ABSTRACT

Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO NP)  were synthesized via the chemical co-precipitation method using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as the precipitating agent. Their structure and morphology were characterized by the fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the X-ray diffraction (XRD).    In this study, the magnesium oxide nanoparticles was used as the adsorbent in eliminating cadmium ion and nickel ion in contaminated water after varying contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage, concentration. The various studies was done to know at what particular time, pH, adsorbent dosage, and concentration the contaminants were most adsorbed with use of atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
