ABSTRACT

The research work is focused on the use of social media in the acquisition of digital skills among the students of the University of Benin. The study was aimed to determine the available social media in the acquisition of digital skills. It was based on the technological determinism theory and media richness theory. The study adopted the survey research method with the use of questionnaire. Findings of the study revealed that YouTube was the most used social media platform for acquiring skills by students. The study concludes that social media provides credible information for digital skills acquisition. Against this background, the study recommends that the use of social media should be encouraged for peer learning, support and the building of online communities for acquiring digital skills.
