ABSTRACT

This study examines the role of mass media in rebranding Nigeria. The role of the media is an indispensable tool that ensures national and international development before any country can attain the peak of her success. The contribution of the media cannot be wished away. The rebranding of Nigeria must be a collective goal between both the media and the government, and the government at all level must do a lot to get the citizens of Nigeria into this collective goal of rebranding the country. The Nigeria government must ensure justice equity and fair play, provide security for all its citizen, infrastructure and above all the judicious use of public fund. In order words they must be sincere in fighting corruption without fear or favor of anybody that against the law, and they should give the media a more freehand to execute their function in rebranding the country, these actions could get the country to start believing in itself. Quantitative research design was used in which cross-sectional survey method was adopted while the data collection instrument was questionnaire. Findings of the study have shown that what is placed on the media is what the people would read, watch and listen to. In other words, it influences public opinion and perception and by this the rebranding programme can be actualized. Recommendation is that mass media should continuously monitor and evaluate the impact of media strategies on the perception of Nigeria.
