ABSTRACT

This Research examines the wrongful termination of contract of employment in Nigeria. It remains a pervasive issue in Nigeria, with significant legal, financial, and social implications for employees, employers, and the broader labor market. The research employs the use of doctrinal research methodology and finds that the country's labor laws, while providing some protections, have limitations and ambiguities that often favor employers, leading to unfair labor practices and unjust termination of employment contracts. The research thus recommends that Nigerian Law needs to strike a balance between an employer’s rights and the reed for the provision of adequate protection for employees against unlawful termination. It futher recommends the need for ratification and domestication of international labour corrections to ensure compliance with global best practices. Thus the research concludes that by implementing the recommendations contained herein, Nigeria can better protect employees rights.
