ABSTRACT
The study examines the role of the UN in tackling security challenges in Nigeria since 1960. UN is an international organisation which came into existence in the aftermath of WWII and, its primary responsibility is the maintenance of global peace. The study methodology is a desk review of primary, secondary, and tertiary sources. The study approach is empirical being narrative and analytical. The study establishes that UN has contributed in tackling economic, social, and internal upraising in Nigeria since 1960. Some major areas discussed is the civil war, insurgency, provision of health and water. However, these efforts yielded low results as a result of Nigeria’s weak institutional framework, corruption, nepotism, religious, and tribal divides. The study therefore, suggested that Nigeria must work closely with the UN to surmount these challenges.
