ABSTRACT
This study investigated undergraduate’s level of appreciation of their course of study in a Nigerian University, with a specific focus on the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. This study also sought to find out if there is any difference in the level of appreciation of Early Childhood Education as a course of study in a Nigerian University based on sex, age and level of study. Four research questions were raised, one was answered directly while three were formulated into hypotheses and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design; the population consisted of all the undergraduates of Early Childhood Education program of the University of Benin. 100 undergraduates formed the sample of the study. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled “Undergraduate’s Level of Appreciation of their Course of study in a Nigerian University” The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, independent sample t-test and analysis of variance. Among the findings of the study is that there is a significant difference in the level of appreciation of Early Childhood Education as a course of study in a Nigerian University based on level of study. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the students of Early Childhood Education should be encouraged by sponsoring them to attend workshops, seminars, and conferences. This is to ensure that their interest and level of appreciation of the program is sustained.
