ABSTRACT
Dance is the conscious and stylized movement of the human body in space and time using energy. Since dance is a non-verbal medium of communication, used to express a people's culture and story, the “Umushagiriro dance” in connection to the genocide that happened in Rwanda in 1994 and it's effects on the Tutsi women informed this research focusing on Gender and Women Empowerments issues. Rehearsals with the use of the Rwandan dance movements, songs and instruments was carried out to put up an excellent performance. The research examined the restoration of “pride and dignity” among the Tutsi women and this was accomplished through the secondary and experimental research methodology employed in the course of the project. The experimental research methodology resulted in the practical realization of the project that is documented in pictures and video. In conclusion the project recommends revival of the Umushagiriro Dance for national unity in Rwanda.
