ABSTRACT

Visually impaired people often encounter difficulties and dangers in navigating their surroundings. To address this problem, this study aims to develop an ultrasonic walking stick that can integrate Arduino and image processing to assist them. The goal is to create a low-cost and reliable navigation system that can capture images and process them using Arduino.

The proposed system consists of an ultrasonic sensor attached to a walking stick, which measures the distance to the nearest obstacle and sends it to an Arduino board. The Arduino board then runs an image processing algorithm and also captures images from a camera and stores them for further analysis. The system can provide auditory feedback to the user based on the distance and the image data.

The study involves designing and implementing the hardware and software components of the system, testing its performance and usability, and comparing it with existing solutions. The results show that the system can successfully capture images and process them using Arduino, and that it can provide useful guidance to the visually impaired user. The system also demonstrates its advantages over other solutions in terms of cost, simplicity, and flexibility.
