ABSTRACT
This study examined transparency and decision – making process in Edo State Civil Service (2010 – 2022). The objectives of the study include the following: To examine how transparency initiatives has impacted on decision making process in Edo State Civil Service, to investigate if employer/employee relationship have any effect on increased productivity in Edo State civil service, to investigate if there exist a bottom-up relationship between management and staff in the decision making process in Edo State Civil Service, to examine if management of Edo State Civil Service allow for team-work participation in decision making process, to highlight the challenges of transparency in the decision making process in Edo State Civil Service, to proffer necessary recommendations to the challenges of transparency in the decision making process in Edo State Civil Service. The research design that was employed in this study is survey research design. The Population for this study comprises of staff of Edo State civil service. The target population for this study will comprise of 5 ministries which includes Ministry of Education, Ministry of Communication, the Ministry of Works, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Health which is 946 (Edo State Civil Service Commission, 2022). The study used both primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected using structured questionnaires. Collected raw data was cleaned and edited for completeness and consistency. Data was analysed by use of the simple percentage and Pearson’s Coefficient Correlation Analysis. The study discovered amongst others that there are strong links between transparency initiatives and decision making process in Edo State Civil Service. Furthermore, policy recommendations were adopted which include amongst others that the element of transparency which encourages good decision making must be upheld as ethics by public officers in the management of the public sector particularly in Edo State Civil Service.
