ABSTRACT
The study examines training as a motivating factor for employee productivity in the Nigeria public sector: a case study of the University of Benin. The study adopted the survey research design using descriptive and analytical types of research. The data sources with questionnaire were analysed using percentage and chi-square statistical instrument on the bases of which the hypotheses was tested. The result indicates that there is relationship between the roles of training as an instrument of motivation and employee’s productivity. Secondly, findings show that there is relationship between lack training methods as an instrument of motivation and employee productivity. Thirdly, the result demonstrates that there is relationship between training periods as an instrument of motivation and employees’ productivity. Based on the findings of this study recommendations were made: The school management should conduct training in area to explore and harness employee productivity in the modern times. For academic and non-academic staffs to improve performance school management should make training as a tradition for the university as this will enhance efficient transfer skills and knowledge acquired during the training. Based on the findings of this study and success accorded to training management should correctly implement all steps of the process employees training. There should also be development and implementation of an adequate training plan and evaluation for academic and non-academic staffs of the university.
