ABSTRACT
This project involves the topographical survey and detailing of a section of Benson Idahosa University, BIU Road, Benin City using modern surveying equipment like GPS and Total station. Topographical surveys are surveys made to determine the locations of natural and man-made (cultural) features on the Earth’s surface and to define the configuration (relief) of that surface. Once these features are located, they can be represented on maps. The natural features that are usually shown on maps include rivers, vegetation, oceans, lakes, etc. while the man-made (artificial) features shown on the map are roads, buildings, streetlight, bridges, railroads, drainages, boundary lines, etc. The relief of the Earth includes its hills, valleys, plains, and other surface irregularities. Lines and symbols are used to depict features shown on maps. The project site was A section of Benson Idahosa University campus, BIU ROAD, G.R.A,BENIN CITY , located within two local government areas i.e. Oredo and Ikpobaokha local government area, Benin city Edo state, Nigeria. The major field survey operation includes reconnaissance which involves field and office reconnaissance, data acquisition which involve the use of Total station for control establishment, detailing and spot heightening. All the Data acquired from the field were deduced, computed and adjusted according to specification and results were analyzed and found to be within the expected accuracy. Finally, information presentation was done digitally by using the final co-ordinates obtained and spot heights in producing various maps like topographical plan, DTM of the study area
