ABSTRACT
This study was designed to check the impact of time management skills on the academic achievements of undergraduate students in Nigerian universities. Four research questions were raised and analysed for the purpose of this study. The simple random sampling technique was used to survey the 26% of the total population which was 150 students of library and information science students in Delta state university, Abraka, Delta State. The data was collected with a questionnaire instrument and analysed using frequency and simple percentage.
The results revealed the time management skills practiced by undergraduates in Nigeria includes the use of time management tools (e.g time table, reminder etc.), Establishing priorities, goal setting and having a clear idea of what to do daily, weekly, monthly or annually. The study also revealed that there are numerous impacts of time management in achieving academic excellence by undergraduates amongst which are that time management helps students to accomplish more work with less effort and reduces frustration by providing school-life balance. The study revealed challenges faced by undergraduates in managing time which includes: mobile devices, procrastination, television sets, unexpected occurrences, inability to object etc.
Based on the results, it was recommended that school administrators should always create awareness programs for undergraduates on the positive impact of good time management skills, school management should train students on how to adequately use their mobile devices as well as manage their time to achieve academic excellence, students should be made to attend programs annually that helps them to learn how to do things at the right and appropriate time without procrastinating, trainings should be carried out to teach undergraduates how to object to certain things that comes their way.
