ABSTRACT
This project work is divided into five chapters. Chapter one discusses a general introduction to the study; to be specific ,it consists of the background to the study, statement of problem, aim, objectives and significance of the study .It tells the reason behind this study and of what use is the study. Chapter two, consist of empirical studies which discusses the concepts of sociolinguistics, proverbs, ethics, language and society, it goes further to review previous studies and discovered that not much has been done on ethics in Yoruba proverbs and also worked on the theoretical framework using translation theories by Uwajeh. Chapter three talks about data presentation that is where all the data collected for the work is brought to limelight. The proverbs are categorized here with their meanings. Chapter four has to do with data analysis, here ,the data is being analyzed with translation models. The translation model of (Uwajeh 2001)that is what was used to analyze some of the proverbs. Chapter five summarizes everything in the project.
