SUMMARY

In this novel, the author portrayed the lives of immigrant, corruption in Nigeria and America Survival. I examine   the theme, literary devices and language. However, the author condemns corruption in the society. Ndibe shows a society where corruption, greed and deceit are rampant . This, he does by focusing on the dorminant theme of greed. He achieve this by talking about Ike who gamble his money to get more and steal his hometown deity for money. Ndibe makes lavish use of Nigerian idioms, and while their meaning can be ascertained through their context. Ike is a victim of accentual discrimination and injustice over getting a job in cooperate world in America.Ndibe succeeds in transferring the major element of drama (dialogue) into prose which he uses as a style to convey his message.The author uses proverb to pass a message also to show African traditional and culture.
