ABSTRACT
The convergence of theatre and transmediality reflects a dynamic and expanding realm where traditional theatrical approaches combine with contemporary digital media technologies. Central to this convergence is the job of the digital media designer, whose artistic vision and technical competence influence the insertion of digital media elements into live performances. This project intends to explore the varied functions of digital media designer in contemporary theatre and transmediality, investigating their contributions to storytelling, visual design, audience participation, and the overall theatrical experience.
This study begin by offering a complete overview of the historical evolution of theatre and transmediality, charting the emergence of technological advances in digital media and their impact on theatrical production. Focusing on academic works, and case studies, this research will explore how digital media designers collaborate with directors, playwrights, set designers, and performers to create immersive and interactive theatrical experiences that go beyond conventional boundaries.
In addition, this research investigate specific duties and skill sets of digital media designers, exploring their role in conceptualizing, designing, and carrying out digital media elements such as projection mapping, video design, interactive installations, and virtual/augmented reality experiences. Through in-depth case studies of the Lion King stage performance, this project highlight the creative processes, technological hurdles, and aesthetic concerns involved in incorporating digital media into live performances.
Moreover, this project examine the effect of digital media on audience engagement and participation in theatre, researching how immersive and interactive technologies improve the theatrical experience and blur the lines between performer and spectator. By monitoring audience responses, feedback, and behavioural patterns, the study will examine the usefulness of digital media in promoting emotional resonance, narrative immersion, and social engagement within theatrical situations.
In addition, this research explore the ethical, cultural, and socio-political consequences of digital media in theatre and transmediality, addressing concerns of accessibility, representation, authenticity, and the commodification of art. By critically evaluating the ethical concerns and challenges faced by digital media designers, this study add to existing debates regarding the role of technology in influencing the future of theatre and the performing arts.
Overall, this research intends to enhance our understanding of the function of digital media designer in theatre and transmediality, giving light to their creative process, technical expertise, and artistic vision. By revealing the intersections between technology, storytelling, and live performance, this study intends to stimulate future partnerships, innovations, and interdisciplinary conversations in the realm of theatre and transmediality.
