ABSTRACT

This study examines the utilization of the University of Benin Institutional Repository (UNIBEN IR) for scholarly communications. It aims to assess the frequency of student usage, perceived benefits, available e-services, impact on academic work, and the users' IT skills. The descriptive survey design was employed, involving 100 students from six faculties who completed the questionnaires. Findings revealed that students are aware of the repository's open access features, a small percentage of the students use it regularly, with most accessing it only when necessary. The repository's extensive and frequently updated digital resources are highly beneficial to users. Many students have not fully explored all the available e-services, they have used the repository for course-related resources and e-learning. The repository has significantly enhanced students' scholarly communications, particularly for personal assignments and assessments. Additionally, students possess adequate computer literacy and technical support to utilize the repository effectively.
