ABSTRACT

The study investigated the use of TikTok for teaching and uploading educational content in secondary schools in Edo State. It involved 109 students from senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. The research aimed to examine the influence of TikTok on teaching and uploading educational content, identify the most captivating types of educational content on TikTok, and explore the challenges associated with using TikTok for educational purposes. These aspects were thoroughly discussed in the literature review.

Data collection was conducted through questionnaires administered to the students. The data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation tables, with a stratified random sampling technique employed for the research. The findings revealed different perspective on TikTok's role in senior secondary schools. While TikTok was perceived to moderately enhance student engagement with educational content, opinions varied on its overall impact on understanding and classroom participation. The study highlighted both the encouragement and reservations about TikTok's ease of use and interactive learning features.

The findings indicated a general agreement on the attractiveness of various educational content categories on TikTok, suggesting its potential as a compelling learning medium. However, significant challenges were also identified, including teacher resistance, inadequate resources, data privacy concerns, and technical limitations, which hindered TikTok's effective integration into formal educational environments. These findings illustrate the complex landscape of TikTok's adoption in senior secondary schools, balancing perceived benefits with practical implementation challenges.
