ABSTRACT
This study deals with the use of taboo words among Ondo people, its central focus is to find out how taboo words are used among Ondo people and what the Ondo’s consider as taboo. The study employed both primary and secondary sources of data collection to get basic data used in the study. Data was collected from three informants from Akungba Akoko and Ikare local government of Ondo state. The ages of the informants ranges from 55-70 and they are competent speakers of the language. The study discovered that taboos are essential part of a language as its effect is on the culture and beliefs of the community. Taboos in Ondo are mostly in phrases and sentences. Direct words are not given much credit and are not considered taboos as they fail to pass the need and use of euphemism.
