THE USE OF INTERNET AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN IKPOBA OKHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA IN EDO STATE.

ABSTRACT

This research work was carryout to examineThe Use of Internet among Secondary School Students in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area in Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study.

The study employed the survey research design. Simple random Sampling technique was employed in selecting students that were respondents from the Public Secondary Schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area Edo State. The research instrument used to collect data for the study was a structured questionnaire. The instrument was validated by the supervisor and distributed to the selected schools and was analyzed using statistic mean and standard deviation.

Based on the result of the findings of the study. It was discovered that there are different factor responsible for poor usage of the internet by secondary school students in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Edo state which are inadequate use of the internet by student, improper usage of the internet by secondary school student, poor academic performance based on adequate usage of the internet, lack of information about the preferred network provider to use when browsing the internet. It was there recommendation among others that basic knowledge and background material should be made available, and the students are well taught and informed on how best to engage the internet as it relates to their academic performances.
