ABSTRACT
This study identifies and analyses impoliteness strategies in Nigeria presidential debates from the year 2015-2022 among some of the political parties in Nigeria.It deals with the categorization of different types of impoliteness strategies such as personal attacks, aggressive language and Inflammatory rhetoric. It also aims to examine the impact of impoliteness strategies on political communication and public perception. This study employs the use of qualitative analysis to aid its research and also makes use of pragmatics to analyze the underlying motivations behind impolite language use. The study therefore concludes that there is great utilization of impoliteness strategies in political discourse overall through the use of various strategies by candidates to either energize their base and increase emotional tendencies among their supporters or to discredit their opponents.
