THE USE OF CLOUD STORAGE TECHNOLOGIES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF LIBRARY RESOURCES BY LIBRARY STAFF IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES IN EDO STATE, NIGERIA.

ABSTRACT

The study examinedthe Use of Cloud Storage Technologies in the Management of Library Resources by Library Staff in Academic Libraries in Edo State, Nigeria. The Total Enumerative technique was adopted for the study and a well-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data collected where analyzed using simple percentages and frequency. Results from the study, showed that Dropbox, Google Drive, Dropbox, One Drive, Mega and iDrive are the various types of Cloud Storage Technologies used in Academic Libraries, It also revealed that the extent of use of Cloud Storage Technology in Academic Libraries is high. The study revealed Using cloud storage Technologies has had positive impact on the management of Library resources in Academic Libraries. Finally the study also revealed thatthere are so many factors affecting the use of Cloud Storage Technologies in the management of library resources in Academic Libraries which include majorly data security risks are a key barrier in the acceptance of cloud storage, poor network bandwidth and Internet connection is always required to access the cloud and this can limit the use of Cloud Storage technology due to lack of funds.

In the light of the findings of this study, the following recommendations were made: University management should provide more training program, workshops and seminars use of cloud storage Technologies in the management of library resources by library staff in Academic libraries, University management should equip the library environment with reliable Internet connectivity and technology devices, Poor network bandwidth should be properly taken care off, The issue of data security risks should be looked into as it is a key barrier in   the acceptance of cloud storage.
