ABSTRACT
This study investigates the use of audio -visual materials in the teaching and learning of history in senior secondary schools in ovia north east local government area of Edo state, with a specific focus on Ovia North East in Edo State, Nigeria. the use of audio-visual materials in teaching and learning has become an increasingly popular method in education. In the context of history education, these materials play a crucial role in creating an immersive and engaging learning experience for students. Ovia North East Local Government in Edo State, presents a unique setting in which to explore this dynamic approach to history education. This research aims to explore how does the use of audio-visual materials impact the teaching and learning of history in Ovia North East Local Government, Edo State. The population would consist of history teachers or educators and students' in schools within Ovia North East Local Government. The local government has a total number of six hundred and thirty-six (636) teachers. Based on the findings, the following recommendations are proposed: Educational authorities should organize regular training sessions and workshops for history teachers to enhance their proficiency in utilizing audiovisual materials effectively. These sessions should focus on strategies for integrating multimedia resources into lesson plans and leveraging technology to create engaging learning experiences. Efforts should be made to ensure the availability and accessibility of a wide range of audiovisual materials in schools. This may involve securing funding for the procurement of additional resources, updating existing materials, and establishing mechanisms for sharing resources among schools within the locality.Education policymakers should consider revising the history curriculum to incorporate more opportunities for utilizing audiovisual materials. By integrating multimedia resources into the curriculum framework, educators will have clearer guidance on how to incorporate these aids into their teaching practices, thereby enhancing the overall quality of history education.
