ABSTRACT

This study investigated the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the reading and research habits of students at Ekenwan campus, University of Benin (UNIBEN). The objectives of the study aimed to investigate how students use AI-powered resources for their academic activities, including reading, information retrieval, and research. To determine the percentage of students using AI technologies for research. The theory used in this study were the technological determinism and the media richness theory, it was concluded that the high utilization of AI-powered resources among students underscores the growing reliance on these technologies for learning, with a notable perception of their benefits in enhancing research quality and reading comprehension the study recommended that, training programs and workshops should be offered to faculty and staff to familiarize them with AI technologies and how to integrate them effectively into teaching practices, provide ongoing support and resources to ensure faculty and staff feel confident and competent in utilizing AI-powered tools in their teaching,AI-powered resources should be into course curricula to enhance students' research skills, critical thinking abilities, and information retrieval processes. Offer courses or modules specifically focused on utilizing AI technologies for academic tasks, such as research methodologies and information literacy.
