ABSTRACT

The research work examined the United States and the use of propaganda during the cold war. It interrogated the various mediums and the coordination of the United States Information Agency (USIA) to project its values, ideals, and counter the ideological influence of the Soviet Union. American presented a united front to the world, projecting an image of strength, unity, and democratic values. The study revealed several key elements that contributed to the outbreak of the Cold War. The tension between the superpowers was palpable, driven by conflicting ambitions and interests. The rise of communism, particularly in Eastern Europe, served as a catalyst for discord, as the Western powers sought to contain its spread, while the Soviet Union aimed to expand its influence. Ideological differences ran deep, creating an impassable divide that fueled mistrust and animosity. The wartime conferences at Yalta and Potsdam did not help matters. These two wartime meetings were pivotal moments in the genesis of the Cold War. The agreements and disagreements that transpired during these conferences underscored the conflicting aims of the Allied powers, setting the stage for post-war division and suspicion. The study examined the intricate negotiations and the strategic maneuvering that shaped the post-war order. The specter of nuclear weapons loomed large throughout the Cold War era.
