ABSTRACT
This research examines the threat of Nuclear weapons and North Korea’s involvement in the use of Nuclear Weapons. This research identifies the threat of Nuclear Weapons and explains the meaning of Nuclear weapons. Furthermore, this research examines the legality of the use of Nuclear weapons. The research discusses the historical activities of North Korea in relation to nuclear weapons and the consequences of the use of these weapons. The research analyses the international laws prohibiting the use of Nuclear Weapons and discusses the effectiveness of the laws to curtail and control North Korea’s use of Nuclear Weapons. The international community must come together to put an end to the threat of Nuclear Weapons in North Korea because it is detrimental to us all. It also discusses North Koreas violation of both Customary International law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty it was once a State Party to. The research recommends that the international community should mount pressure on North Korea for the adoption of the Nuclear Weapons Convention as the substantive treaty. It recommends that effective sanctions be placed on North Korea and that more effective laws should be passed which will give no room for State Parties to withdraw from a Treaty. The research concludes that regardless of the UN, the United States and all other States have an important role to play in the fight for the prohibition of Nuclear weapons, specifically in North Korea.
