SUMMARY
Management of inflammations of the cornea is a very delicate process and amongst the currently available drugs, steroids are the most effective for the non-specific control of the inflammatory cells. Corticosteroid therapy, though effective can lead to adverse side effects. The aim of this research is to investigate the therapeutic effect of Orange Oil and Groundnut Oil in a base of Shea butter and cocoa butter on sodium hydroxide induced cornea and inflammation and ulceration.
The findings of this study has shown orange oil in a base of shea butter and cocoa butter and a combination of orange oil and groundnut oil in a base of shea butter and cocoa butter to be efficient in the treatment of corneal ulceration and inflammation and thus could serve as alternatives to topical antibiotics which bacteria are increasingly becoming resistant to, and also given the affordability of this alternative treatment.
