ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was aimed at finding out the perception of teachers on the contents of the Senior Secondary School Biology Curriculum each of the textbooks cover adequately, how well each of the textbooks provides sufficient and meaningful activities for the users both students and teachers. And also provide instructional support to the teachers for the effective teaching. This study was carried out in Benin City, Edo State, primarily to investigate the survey of the perception of Biology teachers on the use of recommended Biology textbooks in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Five research questions were raised. A structured questionnaire was developed by the researcher, validated and administered to the respondents selected for the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the data collected. Survey design was used to get a population of ten Secondary Schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State with a population, of Fifteen teachers. The sampled size used was fifteen teachers. Fifteen questionnaire items were formulated and administered to the sampled teachers in selected schools. The result of the analysis were presented in tables and figures and also indicated that users of the recommended Biology textbooks perceive it to be useful instructional aids, they believe each textbook adequately cover the Curriculum, use illustrations where necessary, help with class work and assignments, are readable and each chapter is well summarized with complimentary study questions. Each chapter contains a good number of critical questions that require students to engage in real thinking.
