ABSTRACT
Music is used as a means to optimally realize the essence of drama. Femi Osofisan is reputed for using different styles of playwright's concept of music in his plays. As such, it became necessary to critically study his use of music in his "Midnight Hotel" as means to know the significance of his approaches in stage performance. In the conduct of the study, the literary method of research was adopted, which entails critical studying and retrieval of relevant data from books, journals, literary works. In the case of a play text which was the case in this study, it is a contextual study which derives information from the contents of a work. This study found out that Femi Osofisan treated music as a major component of drama, through various forms of incorporating approaches. The study concludes that music in modern African stage drama is given a holistic treatment in line with performance traditions of Africa. The study recommends that aspiring Nigerian playwrights should view the works of Femi Osofisan as models, as far as music incorporation is concerned.
