The purpose of this research was to investigate the learning style preferences of Science Education students in the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology (CIT). To achieve this objective, three research questions and two hypotheses were raised for the study.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The sample for the study were randomly selected, a total of 135 respondents from the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology (CIT). The research instrument used for the study was a questionnaire titled “ The learning style preferences of Science Education students in the University of Benin”( r = 0.79). The data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, simple percentages(%), ANOVA and T-test.
The findings of this study revealed that the visual learning style is the preferred learning style of Science Education students. Findings also revealed that Science Education students do not differ in their learning style preferences based on sex. Lastly, it was revealed that Science Education students do not differ in their learning style preferences based on academic level. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that Science Education students should be given orientation on the importance of learning styles. In addition, provision should be made for materials to reinforce the preferred learning styles of students.
