Summary
The purpose of this study was to examine the social cultural effect of economic recession on families in Ugbowo communities. Specifically, the study examine the extent to which economic recession affects the living standard of families in Ugbowo Community; to examine the extent to which economic recession influence youth migration in Ugbowo Community; ascertain the extent to which economic recession 66 influence school dropout at all level of education in Ugbowo Community; ascertain the extent to which economic recession influence social vices in Ugbowo Community; as well as find out the extent to which economic recession influence unemployment in Ugbowo Community. This study employed qualitative research instrument through the administration of questionnaires to two hundred (200) respondents. The respondents comprises of inhabitants of Ugbowo Community, Benin City, Edo State. The employed frequency count and simple percentage method of data analysis, while chi-square statistical tool was utilized in testing the formulated hypotheses. 1. Economic recession affects the living standard of families in Ugbowo Community. 2. Economic recession influence youth migration in Ugbowo Community. 3. Economic recession influence school dropout at all level of education in Ugbowo Community. 4. Economic recession influence social vices in Ugbowo Community. 5. Economic recession does not influence unemployment in Ugbowo Community.
