ABSTRACT
This project work examined the significance of rhythm in African dance performance. Focusing on Bata dance of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, the project studied the historical development and performance of the dance among the people so as to determine how rhythm is utilized in the dance literary methodology was employed in gathering necessary data. The research observed that rhythm is a fundamental element in shaping the aesthetics and cultural dimensions of African dance and that Bata dance is a good example of the ways in which rhythm can be used to convey cultural meanings and values.
